Detroit Auto Show: Poor economy takes a bite out Charity Preview
Every January the North American International Auto Show kicks off with the press and industry previews and then on the Friday night their is a gala Black Tie Charity Preview before the show opens to the general public on Saturday morning. Proceeds from ticket sales for the Charity Preview go to local children’s charities, and in previous years the gala has typically sold out and raised $7.5 million from the $400 per person tickets. This year the Michigan economy has really been in the toilet with thousands of car-maker and supplier employees either getting laid off or bought out. According to the Detroit News, sales have been way down this year and thousands of tickets are still available. At this point, they’ve apparently only sold $6 million worth of tickets. If you’re in Detroit and have a tux and $400 handy you can get ticket info at the NAIAS website.
