Smarter Smartphones - Garmin's Mobile 20 nav system

Smarter Smartphones - Garmin's Mobile 20 nav systemNot to be outdone by portable navigation rival TomTom, Garmin announced at the CeBIT trade show Wednesday an automotive nav system that delivers voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions on Nokia, Windows Mobile and Treo 650 Smartphones. The Garmin Mobile 20 package includes a Bluetooth-equipped phone cradle with built-in GPS receiver, speaker and microphone, together with a plug-in data card for the phone.

The Garmin Mobile 20 package also introduces Garmin Online - wireless data services that include real-time traffic information, gas prices, “safety” camera locations (sure to be a big hit in the U.K.), weather information, and a host of other location-based services.

The system includes a full map of either Europe or the U.S. and Canada. No pricing info yet, but the unit is expected to ship in July.

Garmin also announced at CeBIT new models of the popular StreetPilot and Nuvi products, both with Garmin’s new “Garmin Lock” anti-theft feature.
